Training Update:
17/2/2009
Parners continues to crack the whip at Rams Stadium, with great support from Geoff, Browny & Harry. Attendance has been fantastic, with blokes continueing to filter in and get stuck into the intense training schedule. Great to see Brad Mac down and working hard on the track. Brad had a break out year in 2008, cementing his position in a backline constantly under siege. Looking forward to continued development from Brad, as he will need to step up to help cover the loss of Trav Bienkowski.
Morwell product Brad Ross is another who joined us a little late, but is quickly picking up the pace and his skills have been a joy to behold on the training track. Rarely misses a target, Ross's skills and smarts will be crucial in the season ahead. Matt Wong continues to astound with his freakish running ability. Wongy has trimmed up significantly, compared to the animal that graced Rams Stadium in 08. Rarely beaten in a contest & tackles to break people, Wongy will be relishing an opportunity to push into the midfield this season.
Jarrad Gardner has been very impressive, especially with his voice. His leadership qualities are really showing, and his smarts in the contest will ensure we get first use out of the middle. Another key mover is Damo McDowell. Blessed with blistering pace, an engine that never stops and the ability to hit targets by hand or foot, Damo continues to improve. The reigning B & F winner will be looking for a massive 2009, and hopefully he has not booked a European holiday mid season this time. Another exciting news item from the McDowell household, Mark "Roo Dog" McDowell has decided to become a full time footballer as of this week. He has now finished with his other commitments, and this is surely bad news for opposition sides. The upside this bloke is enormous. Think Koutafides, but faster and taller. Scary.
Ben Wotherspoon continues to dominate the track this pre season. This monster of a man, 190cms & 90kgs, moves like a midfielder across the turf. His hands have been fantastic, with his finger concerns well and truelly behind him. As Parners says, Spoon sets the standard at training that we all must strive for. Javid is another who is doing well in pre season. New to the club in 2008, Javid showed he has poise and considerable strength in the contest. He will be aiming to reproduce that form, and push up into the midfield. Javid will certainly be one to watch in 2009.
A highlight of pre season to date has been the irresistable form shown by Gogs. Gogs spent 2008 in the reserves, taking all before him in what appeared to be the winding down of a great career. 2009 has brought a new found vigour from this born-again ball magnet, and I think we may see Gogs return to the top flight in 09. His hardness in and under will be a valuable asset to the side this season. Keep it up Gogs.
And I must finish with a warm welcome to all the new blokes down at the club. Its great to have you onboard.
Training Update:
The boys have been burning up the track for 2 weeks now. Monday's & Friday's at Rams Stadium have been a mixture of conditioning, skills and an increased fitness program. Parners has brought plenty of excitement to the club, and the boys are responding very well. Wednesday's are a freshen up session at Port Beach, a chance to work some different areas and finish up with a refreshing dip.
Some impressive performances on the track. The McDowell brothers, Damo & "Roo Dog" Mark have blitzed every distance of the running program. These boys were born to run, and it inspires others to dig deep and keep working hard. Chamberlain & Fulton have returned in 09 in serious shape. Long gone are the days of 57 McLean St, Timmy is a finely tuned animal and will be a handful in 09. Fulton is gaining more and more confidence, and im sure we will see this giant of a man win games off his own boot.
Good to see Wongy & Mark back at training these past 2 sessions. These boys are a product of the Wolf's colts team in 2005, and they will combine again this season to torment opposition sides. Gardner has turned his back on a promising cricketing career to focus on his footy, which is great to see. He had a stellar 2008, after being shifted into the middle. The "Extractor" will be aiming for a huge 2009, and combining forces with Damo, Hobo (The Thrasher), and Aussie in the ruck, the forwards will get plenty supply this season. Plover will be amongst the goals. It's what he does. Its on his CV.
DJ is killing it on the track. Yet to turn 21, DJ will be patrolling half back in 09, hitting sweet targets with his raking right boot. Spoon, fresh from a big 6 months in the gym, will be licking his lips at the sight of DJ streaming from defence. Stef is putting in the big ones at training, and after a superhuman effort against Wanneroo last year, he will be eager to stamp his authority on this competition once again. The Kirk brothers are back in training, and its great to see them on the track this early. The colts from last year and looking very good, with some very handy new recruits. Keep up the hard work boys. The rewards will come
